Unplanned Teen Pregnancy

Having a child is a blessing, and the moment you have them you start thinking of their future, thinking of their growth into adolescence, becoming grade A students, getting a successful career and good family or something like that. You would hardly ever think of your teenage daughter getting an unplanned pregnancy because they decided to have unprotected sex as teens. It is not likely that you would ever suspect your child to be having sex unless you discover condoms or home pregnancy kits laying in the trash can or in their rooms. However, you can get a good idea of what your child knows about sex, and about how to prevent unplanned teen pregnancies by talking to them and educating them. Let them know that all their future plans will be put on hold if they do happen to have an unplanned teen pregnancy. That means their dreams will be put on hold, their career, and probably their high school diploma. Having an unplanned teen pregnancy is certain to change a young girl’s life in dramatic fashion and this could be permanent. Even the life of young men are known to change in much the same vein as they will need to be financially responsible at a very young age as they support their young wife and child. You should educate your child and impart to them the knowledge of pregnancy and that unplanned pregnancy is preventable and should be avoided at all costs.

Using Birth Control

There are many options out there when it comes to birth control, which can prevent unplanned teen pregnancy. There are birth control pills, there’s the shot, there’s the IUD, there are condoms and there’s even the morning after pill. There are so many options that you wouldn’t even think that unplanned teen pregnancy will occur. Yet the unplanned teen pregnancy epidemic is growing exponentially. More and more young women are getting pregnant and it’s mostly from lack of education. Educate your child about these methods of birth control, teach them to make use of them and that they are always available, in case times arise that sex is unavoidable.

Smart Decisions

Teach your child that if they are ever faced with a situation in which they are about to have sex, they should stop and assess the situation. This is not going to be easy as sexual desire can easily cloud the mind as far as rational thinking goes. But it can be done. Let your child know that when they engage in sexual activities that there are chances for an unplanned teen pregnancy. Let them know that it is not wrong to have sex, instead educate them on how be smart about it if they intend on pursuing sex. Teens will always want to have sex and they are likely to do it, it is a fact that we cannot hide from. The more you educate your teen, however, and the more you discuss with them how much their lives will change with an unplanned teen pregnancy, the less likely you’ll be faced with raising a baby having a baby.

Keeping Pregnant Women Away From Acid Reflux Dilemma

Many women tend to experience heartburn symptoms when they are still carrying their babies, and this happens for several reasons.

One of these is the increase of hormones in a woman’s body while they are pregnant. This increases the ability of the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) to be closed, because it softens the ligaments function. As LES relaxes, the tendency is for the gastric acids and ingested foods to reflux back up into the esophagus area and throat.

Another reason they experience heartburn during pregnancy is from the changes occurring within her body as the baby begins to develop and grow, increasing pressure on her stomach. Therefore, the stomach contents are forced right into the LES, and then to the esophagus.

However, there are several methods that a pregnant woman can observe to lessen the discomfort brought from heartburn. You can use some of the following tips, however, keep in mind they may not completely remove all heartburn.

1. Avoid the food that triggers heartburn. Examples of this are chocolates, spicy foods, citrus fruits and juices, mustard, tomatoes and tomato based products, fatty foods, fried foods, and highly seasoned dishes. You may also want to consult your physician on what food and beverage items you should or should not be ingesting.

2. Avoid beverages with caffeine in them, such as; coffee, tea and soda. By drinking too many of them your LES will relax and that will cause acid to go up into the esophagus.

3. Always avoid alcoholic beverages. This, like caffeine tends to relax the LES thus, creating the same effect of triggering heartburn.

4. Do not eat large meals. It is suggested that taking numerous small meals throughout the day will be better.

5. Avoid rush when eating your meals. Chewing food thoroughly will really help in avoidance of heartburn, so it is better take your time while eating.

6. Make sure to rest after eating and avoid doing too much activity on a full stomach.

7. Drink plenty of water through out the day and in fact, women that are pregnant need to not only drink at least eight to ten glasses a day, they should drink them throughout the day. Through this, the stomach will expand, and then the LES will be given more pressure, obliging it to open inappropriately. Hence, it is really recommended to drink more water and other fluids in between meals.

8. How you sleep is important too, you should arrange your pillows so you sleep around 6 - 10 inches high. You should try to elevate both your head and shoulder areas when sleeping. Through this, the gravity will work to keep the acids in your stomach in their place; in the stomach, not in the esophagus. Try to consult physicians to gain additional knowledge on how to relieve night time heartburn.

9. Make sure the clothes you wear are not too tight. Tightness around the waist and stomach will trigger heartburn as it causes uneasiness.

10. When bending, do it at the knees, not at the waist. You do not want to put too much pressure on your stomach.

11. Keep a good posture when your walking and when sitting.

12. Maintain a sensible amount of weight, too much weight and fatness will give more stress in your stomach. When that happens, it will force the contents within the stomach to go up toward the esophagus much easier. It is always best to stay with your doctors guidelines.

13. Avoid smoking. Doctors stated that smoking could cause several effects to a pregnant woman, and one is that it can add to the possibility of experiencing heartburn. By following all these tips, you will have a much healthier and happier pregnancy.

Maternity Clothes

As a woman’s body changes for pregnancy her clothing isn’t going to fit anymore. It may be possible to wear them for several months, but it depends on the person. They may need to begin wearing some maternity clothes within the first or second trimester depending on the person.

There are plenty of great clothes out there for a woman to wear while she is pregnant. She can choose from a wide range of pants, blouses and dresses to select from. Most of them have a stretch panel so you can wear them for many months of your pregnancy. Some jeans have buttons or snaps on the sides too. This allows you to adjust them to a comfortable size level through your pregnancy.

You can choose to wear casual maternity clothes or career maternity clothing items. It depends on your sense of style, as well as, the dress code where you work. Keep in mind that you will likely need to wear maternity clothing for a while after the birth too. The key to buying maternity clothes is to shop for both comfort and value.

Most retail stores carry a variety of maternity clothes, so you can look everywhere for them. Some stores are specifically for maternity wear and they will have more of a collection. Depending on the time of year you may come across maternity shorts and swimwear too. Many women find that maternity underwear and bras are essential as well. Having comfortable shoes that will offer you the support you need during your pregnancy is important as well. Most women’s feet often swell up towards the end of your pregnancy so you will probably need to get a wider pair of shoes.

Of course one of the downsides of needing maternity clothing is the cost. It’s easy to spend hundreds of dollars for just the basic clothing items you will need during pregnancy. There are many second hand stores and even yard sales where you can get great prices on used maternity clothes. The internet also offers online auctions where you can purchase items. Most of them are almost in new condition but much less expensive.

A lot of people loan their maternity clothes to family members or even friends. By trading these clothes with someone you know who is expecting you can be sure each outfit will more than pay for itself in use. You can be sure people will return the favor again, when your turn to have another baby comes around.

Once the excitement of being pregnant subsides, lots of questions come up.Eating the right foods is more important than ever now that you are pregnant.Eating the right foods will help you avoid pregnancy complications.  Learning what to eat during pregnancy has never been easier than it is now.

First, remember that once you hit the second trimester, good nutrition during pregnancy requires that you eat about 300 more calories a day.  Calories provide you with the extra energy that  your body needs to grow your baby. You need extra calories, but that doesn’t mean hijacking the donut truck. This is only 300 calories. There are about 100 calories in a glass of milk or one banana, and about 200 calories in a slice of whole wheat bread, and ounce of cheese and a half cup of grapes. If you eat this way, you will find that the amount of food you eat is actually more than if you just gave in and had that donut with sprinkles you have your eye on.

At least 3 servings of protein daily are required to give your baby what she needs to grow strong.Protein will supply important building blocks for your baby.  Protein is very easy to come by and your options are endless.Try something like 3 glasses of milk, 2 cups of yogurt and 3 ounces of cheese.

In addition, you will need at least four servings of calcium daily. Not only will the calcium help your baby’s bones to grow, it will also protect your own.  Milk is the best way to get your fill of calcium, but you can also get your fill of calcium from cheeses,  yogurt and even ice cream.

Aim for at least three servings of vitamin C.  Your body does not store vitamin C so you need a fresh supply of it every day. There are lots of fruits and vegetables that contain vitamin C.  You also want to make sure you get three to four servings of green leafy and  yellow vegetables and fruits. An added benefit is that these fruits and most vegetables will give you vitamin C.

Try to eat at least one or two servings of other fruits and vegetable too, as they will supply you with other nutrients and much needed fiber. You might consider bananas, apples and onions for foods in this category.   Eat six or more servings of whole grains and legumes. These foods not only give you lots of important vitamins, like E and B, they also help you avoid constipation, a common complaint among pregnant women.   Try eating brown rice, whole wheat breads and even air popped corn to get  your servings of whole grains and legumes in.

No doubt, one of the most important nutrients you need when you are pregnant is iron.  Your body’s demand for iron will never be greater than it is while you are pregnant. It is important not to ignore this. Not enough iron can cause anemia, so be sure you are getting enough.Your doctor can prescribe an iron supplement if you feel you are not getting enough in your diet.

A fit pregnancy gives your baby the best chance for healthy development.  And while it is always a good idea to eat well every day, when you are pregnant it is essential that you eat well every day.

The most common early pregnancy sign that hints that a woman is pregnant is the missed period. At that time, many early pregnancy symptoms may begin to occur, and confirm what is already known because of the body’s own response to the many changes taking place. You may think that missing your period is your first indication that you are pregnant, but some of these early pregnancy symptoms may appear long before missing your period. Sometimes these early pregnancy symptoms are not noticed because they are not strong enough to gain the mother’s attention. If you did notice them, that might be the best time to take a pregnancy test.  But by the time a woman hits the sixth or seventh week of pregnancy however, these early pregnancy signs might be difficult to ignore.

Yuck. Even the thought of that food makes me want to throw up.

Most women know they will likely have food cravings and aversion, but when they occur so early in their pregnancy, many women are surprised. When you look at charts of pregnancy symptoms week by week, these symptoms often show up much later in the term. However, challenges with different types of food can begin very early in the first trimester and will sometimes continue on throughout the pregnancy. In some cases, the aversions or craving may fluctuate slightly, so a woman who is craving one type of food during the first few months may switch to a completely different craving later on.

One of the reasons for these early pregnancy symptoms is hormones. The fluctuations in hormones can sensitize the nose to a variety of odors, and the odors are often the cause of the food aversion. One important thing to do when you have any of these early pregnancy symptoms is to be sure that you take your prenatal vitamin, so you are sure to get the nutrients you need. Don’t make your nausea worse, though, by taking your vitamins on an empty stomach.  Then try to cater to your aversions and cravings as much as possible while sticking to a healthy diet as much as possible.

When did I strain my back?

Most women won’t think about back problems as early pregnancy symptoms; after all, that extra weight hasn’t started packing it on just yet! Many books that talk about pregnancy symptoms week by week will also list low back pain in the later months of pregnancy as the growing baby begins to put a strain on the mother’s body. However, many women do experience low back pain as one of the early pregnancy symptoms as well. Once again, you can blame hormones for this discomfort as they prepare your joints and ligaments for the delivery of your baby at the end of your term.

You probably know many of the early pregnancy symptoms. Some are well known, like an abdominal cramp in early pregnancy, morning sickness, fatigue and swollen breasts. Others make an appearance before many women expect them, like food aversions and low back pain. Be sure to check with your doctor if you have any concerns about any of these or other early pregnancy symptoms.

Has a recent test revealed that you are expecting a baby? You may be experiencing many emotions after taking your pregnancy test. Emotions could include excitement, happiness, and fear.

There are many mothers-to-be that have different concerns or issues to deal with when dealing with the birth of a child. Those concerns may be issues with living space, money, health related care, baby supplies, such as diapers or baby formula.  Although these are all issues and concerns that must be dealt with, something should come first. That is the well being of the baby and yourself.  The moment that you learn that you are pregnant, you should start taking steps to receive prenatal care. Many expectant mothers tend to take part in pregnancy massage.

Although it is important to hear that prenatal care is something that you should seek right away, there are many mothers, especially first time mothers, who wonder what is so important about doing so.  If this is a question that you have asked yourself, you are not alone.  A few of the many reasons why you should actively seek prenatal care, when pregnant, are outlined below.

What you need to know is that fetal growth in pregnancy is important to your baby’s health, as well as your health. Although a large focus will be placed on your baby and its development, prenatal care is also used to ensure that you are healthy as well. This often involves monitoring your weight, your blood pressure, as well as the expanding size of your stomach.  That is one of the many reasons why you should attend all of your prenatal care appointments, as it is important to your health, as well as your baby’s.

Another reason why prenatal care appointments are important is because they can be used to determine if your baby will have any medical conditions or complications when they are born. While many parents do not want to know, ahead of time, there are many others who do. Stay financially prepared, as the baby may have some medical condition that may require some funds to be used.

The above mentioned reasons are just a few of the many reasons why it is important that you seek prenatal care when pregnant. Other than monitoring the health of your expecting baby, it’s best to seek prenatal care as it is an important experience along with being exciting and fun.  When attending your prenatal care appointments, whether you be seeing a family practice doctor, an OBGYN, or a midwife, you should be able to see a sonogram of your baby, as well as hear his or her heartbeat. These are issues that parents do not forget.

There are many pregnant women that do not seek prenatal care despite its’ importance. This occurs for a number of different reasons; however, the most common reason is associated with money. If you are currently uninsured or if your health insurance doesn’t cover prenatal care, you may be concerned with the cost of it, as you should be. What you should know is that many healthcare professionals would be more than willing to work with, like with the creation of a payment plan. There are health centres setup around the country which are made for lower income women without medical insurance.

As outlined above, prenatal care is extremely important to your health and the health of your baby, when you are pregnant. It doesn’t matter how many children you have, it’s important to seek out prenatal care.  Pregnancy is one of the most important issues that you will have to deal with in your life and it is extremely important that it is dealt with in the proper matter.

Many people are wondering about baby gender prediction these days since of course scientific and medical intervention has made so many health related issues much easier to manage and control. While “old wives tales” about baby gender prediction may still abound - calculating the woman’s birth date versus the Chinese lunar calendar or believing that the baby will be the same gender as the more active partner during sex - it’s best to consider some more accurate and more reliable methods with scientific backing.

Some think that the way a woman is carrying her child is a good means of baby gender prediction. Many think that boys tend to sit higher in the belly while girls sit lower. This too is not really accurate as often the way a woman’s belly develops during pregnancy is going to be influenced by her own body shape rather than the child’s gender. A woman that is shorter or that has a shorter torso may find that the baby sits lower in the belly simply because there is not much room for it to develop anywhere else. Taller women may find that the baby sits higher simply because it has that much more room. Of course there are many other factors that influence the size and shape of the belly during pregnancy and this too cannot be considered an accurate baby gender prediction method.

The only seemingly real method of baby gender prediction is based on the fact that the sperm containing the Y chromosomes for boys tend to move faster but die quicker than the sperm containing the X chromosome for girls. However the Y chromosome sperm seem to die quicker than the X chromosome sperm. Many believe that for baby gender prediction you should lie still after intercourse for a boy as this will allow that sperm to reach an egg to fertilize quicker. For a girl you should consider have intercourse a day after ovulation as the Y chromosome sperm may then die off before they reach an egg whereas the longer-lasting X chromosome sperm have a better chance of lasting long enough to reach that egg.

Remember though that there is no guaranteed method of baby gender prediction. All the techniques and tricks in the world cannot and will not control what goes on in a woman’s uterus, so be prepared for a baby of either gender no matter what you try.

With more and more people taking up acupuncture, especially when they are using it to treat infertility. The fact that this is a commonly traditional chinese practice in the East.

With that kind of popularity, no wonder there are tons of infertility acupuncture specialists sprouting all over across the United States - and contrary to popular belief - are not necessarily of an Asian ethnicity.

How does it works?

These specialists just insert fine metallic needles meant for this kind of treatment, they gently poked into specific acupressure points within the body. These needles are regulated by the FDA and are used to stimulate the body to achieve mental and physical balance. This is why many people in the west are beginning to like this ancient art of healing. This art is more than 2000 years old.

Did you know?

Are you aware that infertility acupuncture usually does not hurt? Patients often just feel a slight twinge. The benefits reported have been tremendous – some of which are helping to regulate ovulation or menstrual cycles and improve sperm mobility and motility.

People that like to use this?

This type of treatment is mainly for couples undergoing IVF (in vitro fertilization), it is proven to get good quality eggs to enhance fertility chances.

In order to result in higher pregnancy rate, the patient has to undergo the acupuncture treatment immediately before and after egg transfer, this generally causes the uterus to relax. By undergoing this treatment, the uterus could expel the egg.

There are many western researchers that are careful of this traditional practice, but now even major health institutes are adopting it since they have found evidence of the benefits of infertility acupuncture.

What are the four things you need to know before engaging this type of ancient treatment?

First, infertility acupuncture is for functional problems such as irregular ovulation as compared to tube blockage that is more of a body structural problem.

Second, it is not a one time procedure and usually takes several sessions with a specialist over a period of several weeks. There are tons of chinese infertility acupuncture experts recommending chinese herbs as an added supplements when treatment infertility.

Third, there are cases whereby infertility acupuncture and western medicine are a perfect combination. It need not be a stand-alone treatment. Good communication skills between their doctors are needed for patients if they are taking in herbal medications. Always make sure that the acupuncturist is licensed to practice in your state.

Although the exact reasons why fine needles poked in your body can help you conceive is not known, infertility acupuncture has gained popularity because it has shown results. One special reason of using acupuncture is to regulate the blood flow within the body which in turn relaxes a person, ideal for conception.
